April 27, 2010
In April 2010, CIG Media Group, LP, through a financial endowment, showed its support for the development of breaking clinical cancer research initiatives and the foundations such as the ThriveWell Cancer Foundation that support them.
“CIG Media Group is committed to playing a part in extending the lives of patients with cancer throughout the world and in our communities. Jake Remembered and START are just two of the many initiatives that provide hope and improve options for those with cancer. We are fortunate to be able to assist them in reaching their goals,” said Jasper Simons, vice president and publisher, CIG Media Group.
“We are most grateful for the financial commitment from area foundations such as Jake Remembered. It is through contributions like these that ThriveWell Cancer Foundation is able to provide necessary funding for cancer research by local physicians and researchers, such as START,” said Beth Keough, executive director, ThriveWell Cancer Foundation.
CIG Media Group disseminates clinically relevant information to practicing clinicians through its portfolio of tumor-specific journals.

About Jake Remembered
John “Jake” Cartwright was born February 24, 1983, in Fort Worth, TX, to Johnny and Carolyn Cartwright. He graduated from Western Hills High School in 2001, where he played soccer for four years. He attended Tarleton State University for two years, but transferred to Sam Houston State University, where he graduated in 2006 with a degree in speech communications and a minor in journalism. While at Sam Houston, Jake played men’s club soccer while also coaching the team. He also became team manager of the collegiate women’s soccer team. Before being diagnosed with cancer in April 2007, Jake inspired many people with the blog he kept about his cancer “journey,” and he fought hard to beat the cancer until the very end. Jake Remembered, through its fundraising efforts, helps support START. At START, Jake received treatment through a clinical trial. Although he was not cured of his stage IV cancer, the treatment he received gave him 19 more months of life instead of the expected 3-6 months that was first predicted.
